Buying software?
College students, be sure to visit your
college bookstore to see whether they have what
you want, and whether it is "academically
priced." Some of the major software
makers sell certain products at a substantially
reduced price to students and faculty. So,
be sure to take advantage of it and save
money.
Academically priced software can
also be purchased online. See the box below.

Utilities, let's
boogie
Utilities are small programs that you
can add to your computer to provide enhanced
functionality and productivity. Many are
free. Here's one we thought you might want
to try. It's called Button Boogie and
it lets you rearrange your taskbar
buttons.
An article in PCMag.com,
written by the developer of ButtonBoogie, Patrick
Philippot, explains that "When you're moving
back and forth between two applications, having
their taskbar buttons next to each other is
convenient. But unless you opened the applications
one right after the other, their buttons will not
be adjacent. In another case, you may have several
browser windows open, and the one on the left is
associated with the right-most taskbar button.
This can be confusing! ButtonBoogie solves the
problem by letting you rearrange taskbar buttons
using drag-and-drop, which is much easier than
closing and reopening the applications. Also, by
dragging or clicking taskbar buttons with certain
keys pressed, you can set the default window size
and placement of applications on the Desktop.
ButtonBoogie also adds some functionality to the
taskbar. It allows you to easily (and optionally,
automatically) set particular application windows
to a predefined size, state, and
position."
You can download
ButtonBoogie from PC Magazine's web site.
Try it for more enjoyable computing.
