Adding
memory to your computer can be an effective
way of extending its useful life and postponing
the purchase of a new computer; usually, it is the
most cost-effective way to improve performance of
a computer. For example, if you have a
Windows 98 PC and it only has 32 MB of RAM, you'll
notice a big difference in overall performance by
doubling its memory to 64 MB. And if you
like to have multiple applications running at the
same time, you may find, depending on what
applications you work with, that going up to 128
MB, or more, of RAM will yield significantly
better performance than 64 MB. Windows XP
users will probably find 128 MB to be a minimal
level of memory, with 256 MB or more yielding
